What is Liposuction?

Liposuction, also known as Lipoplasty or liposculpture, is surgical removal of fat tissues by the use of small metal cannulas. (Suture less Surgery)

What are the indications for liposuction?

Liposuction works best for treating localized fat deposits which do not respond to traditional diet therapy and exercise. The treated areas will usually retain the new contours. Large volume of fat removal will also help reduce weight of the person.

If that fat is removed, will it return?

The body procures fat cells during three different periods: in utero, early childhood and early adolescence. In general, after reaching maturity the total number of fat cells in the body will not increase. Fat cells that are removed through liposuction or other techniques will not be replaced by other fat cells. So the resultants inch lose & weight lose cells will be permanent.

What are the common sequelae of liposuction?

The common sequelae include contour irregularities, numbness, swelling & discoloration, which occur routinely in almost all patients who undergo liposuction. However, they usually resolve spontaneously or with minimal treatment such as massage and pressure garment.

How much fat can be removed?

Whatever extra subcutaneous fat is there can be removed in a single sitting from different parts of body.

What is the postoperation care required?

No special care is required but one needs to wear pressure garment for at least 3-6 months.

When will the result be apparent?

The results of liposuction are usually seen after 3 weeks to 3 months and improvement continues even later.
